Buying guide
In a graduated pave band, the accents change size along the band. They start small toward the back and step up as they reach the center, which draws the eye to the stone you choose. Because the larger accents sit near the top, the shoulders show more sparkle than a row of same-size pave, while the lower band stays slim and comfortable for daily wear.
Many settings here keep a single center above the graduated band, so the band carries the detail. Others frame the center with a halo or a double halo for a larger look from above, and a few add side stones in a three stone layout. Vintage designs bring in milgrain edges and filigree, and some use a split shank, a twist or a bypass band for a softer line.
Every design comes in 10K, 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, in platinum and in silver. Platinum is dense and naturally white, and 14K gold is a good balance of color and strength. Settings start under $200, and most are between about $850 and $1,150. That price is for the setting; you choose the center, in white or a fancy color such as pink, blue, yellow or green, and it is priced in the next step.
