Buying guide

Studs, drops and hoops with oval lab-grown diamonds

An oval lab-grown diamond looks longer than a round of the same weight, which makes it a flattering choice on the ear. A solitaire stud keeps one oval lab-grown diamond in a basket of prongs, close to the lobe, and works every day. The leaf stud adds small marquise and round accents around the oval for a fuller look. Drop earrings hang below the lobe and catch more light as you move: styles range from mixed shapes under a pave front to an east-west oval at the top with two strands below. Inside-out hoops show prong-set stones on the front and the inner side of the hoop.

Choosing the gold

  • Color: yellow gold warms the stone, rose gold gives a soft pink tone, and white gold makes the lab-grown diamonds look bright and icy.
  • Karat: every design comes in 10K, 14K or 18K gold. Lower karats are harder and resist scratches better; 18K has the richest color.

Carat weight, grades and price

Each design has its own carat weight options, shown on the product page as the total weight of all the lab-grown diamonds in the pair. Some designs also let you choose color and clarity grades. Prices start under $500, and most pairs are between about $1,100 and $1,250 at their smallest option. Gold oval earrings with lab-grown stones cost far less than the same size in natural diamonds.
