Buying guide

Floral and leaf styles

Every ring here uses a flower or leaf motif. Some frame the lab-grown ruby in petals or a star-shaped floral halo, some set it as a solitaire on a vine or leaf band, and a few use a bypass shape that wraps the center. Many add pave lab-grown diamond accents, and some have twisted bands, filigree or engraving.

Lab-grown ruby

A lab-grown ruby has the same chemistry, hardness and crystal structure as a natural ruby and costs far less at the same size and color. At 9 on the Mohs scale, lab-grown ruby is one of the hardest gems, so a floral ring with raised petals and prongs still suits daily wear.

Shape, carat, gold and price

Every design comes in round, oval, cushion, princess, emerald cut, pear, marquise or heart, and every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Rose and yellow gold suit the warm, natural feel of a floral design, and white gold makes the red of the lab-grown ruby stand out. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Rings start at about $760, and most start between about $900 and $990.
