Buying guide

Styles of gold drop earrings

A drop earring hangs from a stud top or a lever back, so the lab-grown diamonds move as you do. Linear drops line up graduated stones from small to large for a long, slim shape. Halo and bezel drops frame a single lab-grown diamond for a cleaner look. Floral and cluster designs group marquise and round stones into petals and leaves, and pavé bars add sparkle along the length of the drop. Some designs mix shapes, such as an emerald cut or cushion above a swinging pear.

Choosing the total carat weight

The carat figure you pick on each product page is the total weight of all the lab-grown diamonds in the pair. Most designs offer between 1 and 4 carats total weight, a few start at 0.5 carat, and the fuller styles go up to 10 carats. A heavier total weight makes the drop longer or the stones larger, so think about how much movement and length suits your everyday wear.

Gold color and karat

Every design comes in white, yellow or rose gold, in 10K, 14K or 18K. 14K gold drop earrings are the usual balance of color and durability; 10K is harder and costs less, while 18K has a richer color and is softer. Yellow gold gives a warm, classic tone, rose gold a soft pink glow, and white gold makes the lab-grown diamonds look brighter and icier.

Price range

Pairs start under $500, and most are between about $850 and $1,500 at their smallest carat option.
