Buying guide

Choosing a gemstone

These gem stud earrings come in a wide range of colored gemstones, and each one keeps its own origin:

  • Lab-grown gems: lab-grown ruby, lab-grown blue and pink sapphire, and lab-grown emerald. They are the same minerals as mined stones, grown under controlled conditions.
  • Natural gems: tanzanite, aquamarine, amethyst, citrine, garnet, peridot and blue topaz, all natural, treated stones.

For green gemstone earrings, pick lab-grown emerald or natural peridot. For pink, pick lab-grown pink sapphire. Blues run from deep lab-grown blue sapphire and natural violet-blue tanzanite to pale aquamarine and bright blue topaz.

Shape and metal

Round and cushion studs look classic and show the most even color. Oval, pear and marquise shapes look longer on the ear, while emerald and princess shapes give a crisp geometric outline, and hearts add a playful touch. Yellow gold warms reds, oranges and greens; white gold, platinum and silver make blues and purples look cooler.

Wear and price

Studs take less wear than rings, so softer stones such as tanzanite and peridot work well here. Clean them with warm, soapy water and a soft brush. Each pair comes in 0.50 to 10 carats total weight. Prices start under $200, and many pairs are about $400, depending on stone and metal.

Made to order

Each piece is made for you in 10–15 days. Shipping is free on orders over $500, and returns are accepted within 30 days.
