Buying guide
Milgrain is a row of tiny metal beads along the edges of the band, a detail drawn from older jewelry. Every band here has it. Styles include a twist between milgrain rails, garnets held in square bezels, and stones framed in a marquise pattern. All are half eternity bands: the garnets run across the top of the band, and the lower half is plain metal.
Garnet is the January birthstone, known for a deep red color. It is about 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, softer than sapphire or diamond, so a band worn every day will last best with some care. Bezels and milgrain rails help protect the stones' edges. Take the ring off for heavy work, sports and cleaning, and store it apart from harder jewelry.
Every design offers 0.25 or 0.35 carat total weight, and most also offer 0.5 carat. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K, and each band is also made in platinum and silver. Yellow and rose gold deepen the red of the garnet, while white metals make it look brighter. Prices start under $250, and most bands are between about $750 and $850.
