A solitaire has a single center stone, so the floral touch lives in the setting. On some rings, leaves sit on the shoulders and point toward the center. On others, a vine twists around the band or a leaf motif runs its full length. A few use a petal-shaped head or a bezel with vintage detail. Some designs keep the band plain, and others set leaves with pave lab-grown diamond accents.
A plain metal band keeps the look quiet and makes the center the only sparkle. A pave or leaf-accented band adds shine and frames the center. For daily wear, a slimmer band sits comfortably; designs list widths from about 1.8 to 2.8 mm, with 2 mm the most common. Milgrain and engraving add a vintage feel on many designs.
Every design comes for round, oval, cushion, princess, emerald, radiant, Asscher, pear, marquise and heart centers. Gold is offered in 10K, 14K or 18K, and platinum and silver are also available. Settings start under $200, and most are between about $750 and $1,150. The price is for the setting only; the center stone, including fancy blue, pink, yellow or green, is chosen and priced in the next step.
