A Promise, Perfected

Emerald Cut Rings with Pear Side Stones

An emerald cut diamond ring with pear shaped side stones sets a long, step-cut center between two pear-shaped lab-grown diamond accents. Most designs are three stone settings; some add a halo or a pave band, and a few use a bypass or split shank. Choose white, yellow or rose gold, platinum, or Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver.

Buying guide

How pears balance an emerald cut

An emerald cut is a rectangle with cut corners and long, flat step facets, so it shows broad flashes of light and a clean, architectural outline. Pear side stones add curves next to those straight lines. Their rounded ends soften the corners of the setting, and their points draw a line toward the center. The result reads a little more romantic than a ring with tapered baguettes, while the center keeps its crisp shape.

Choosing a layout

In the three stone designs, one pear sits on each side of the center and the band stays fairly plain. Halo designs on this page frame the emerald cut with small accents first, which makes the head look wider. Pave designs line the band with lab-grown diamond accents for sparkle along the finger. A bypass band wraps the stones on a slight angle, and a split shank divides the band as it nears the head. Listed band widths run from about 1.8 to 2.8 mm.

Metals, center colors and price

Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold. Platinum stays white and wears well, and silver is the most affordable metal. Every design also takes a fancy blue, green, yellow or pink center, and about half take black. Settings start around $300, and most cost between about $700 and $950 for the setting alone. The center is chosen and priced in the next step.
