Pave means tiny stones set side by side and held by small beads of metal, so the surface looks paved with sparkle. An emerald cut shows long, flat step facets rather than lots of small flashes, so a pave band or halo adds brightness around a calm center. Micro pave uses even smaller stones for a finer line of light.
Many settings can also hold a fancy color center in blue, yellow, pink or green, and some are made for black.
Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. White gold and platinum blend with the pave; yellow and rose gold frame it with warm metal. Settings start under $200, and most cost about $775 to $1,200. That price is for the setting only; the center is priced when you choose it.
