Curved Rings

Curved rings bend the band around the center stone, so a matching wedding band can sit close beside it. Every design here carries pave lab-grown diamond accents along a contoured line. Pick round or oval on any design, or most other shapes on most, in rose gold or platinum, and on most designs white or yellow gold or Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver.

Buying guide

How a curved engagement ring is built

On a curved engagement ring, the shank dips or bends as it reaches the center. That shape gives the ring a flowing outline and leaves room for a band on either side. The designs here take the idea in different directions: a contoured halo with pave, a curved pave three stone setting, and a vintage design with curved side rows, milgrain and a pave gallery.

Pairing curved rings with a wedding band

Many people shop curved rings for a wedding set. A contour ring can be worn on its own or stacked against a straight engagement ring, and the curve of these settings works the other way round, letting a straight band nest under the center. If you plan to wear both every day, choose the same metal for each so they wear at the same rate.

Metals, centers and price

Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Most designs also take a fancy blue, pink, yellow, green or black center. Settings start at about $300, and most are between about $830 and $1,470. That price is for the setting only; the center is chosen and priced in the next step.

Curved Rings FAQs

What is a curved ring called?

A curved ring is usually called a contour ring or contour band, and sometimes a curved or notched band. On an engagement ring, the same idea is called a curved shank. The curve lets the band sit close to a center stone or a halo, so two rings worn together leave little or no gap. The settings on this page use a curved, pave-set line.

Why do some engagement rings pair better with curved bands?

Rings with a low-set center, a halo, or a wide three stone head often leave a gap next to a straight wedding band. A curved band follows the outline of the center and closes that gap. Larger centers and wide halos benefit most. A slim solitaire set high usually pairs fine with a straight band, so a curved band there is a style choice.
