A Promise, Perfected

Bezel Solitaire Rings

A bezel solitaire ring holds one center stone in a rim of metal instead of prongs, for a smooth, secure and modern look. This collection includes full and half bezel solitaires, vintage milgrain and engraved styles, a tension-style setting and an east-west baguette. Most take round, oval, cushion, emerald, princess, radiant, asscher, marquise, pear and heart centers, in gold, platinum or Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver.

Buying guide

Full bezel or half bezel

A full bezel wraps metal all the way around the center. It gives the most protection to the stone's edge and a clean, continuous outline. A half bezel solitaire engagement ring covers only two sides, usually left and right, and leaves the ends open. More light reaches the stone, more of the center shows, and the look is lighter. Both sit lower than a tall prong head, so they catch less on clothing.

Bezel solitaire styles to compare

  • Classic: a plain bezel set solitaire engagement ring, including one on a wide sculpted band.
  • Vintage: milgrain edges, engraved bands and leaf-vine details, some with small bezel-set accents.
  • Modern: a tension-style setting and an east-west baguette with open sides.
  • Split shank: a band that divides as it meets the center.

Metal, center and price

A bezel shows more metal than prongs, so the metal color matters. White gold and platinum blend with a colorless center; yellow and rose gold frame it. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Many settings take a fancy blue, pink, yellow or green center, and a few take black, chosen in the next step. Settings start under $200, and most are between about $600 and $1,650; the center is priced when you choose it.
