Pave describes small stones set close together along the band, held by tiny beads of metal so the surface looks paved with light. It adds sparkle around the center without taking attention from it. The small stones are close to the surface, so a pave band is best cleaned gently and checked from time to time.
The pave solitaire keeps one center stone and lines the top of the band. The hidden halo adds a row of small stones under the center, seen from the side. The halo frames the center and sits on a three-row pave band with a vintage feel. The cathedral design lifts the center on arches over a graduated pave band whose stones change size along the shank. The side-accent style adds pear and round stones beside the center. All of these accents add to the ring's overall stone weight; the 1.5 carat figure is the center alone.
Platinum holds small stones securely and stays naturally white. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K, in white, yellow or rose. White metals blend with the pave for an all-over sparkle, while yellow and rose gold frame it in warm color. Prices start at about $1,100, and most rings fall between about $1,250 and $1,550 in the lowest-priced metal.
