Buying guide
Milgrain, a row of tiny gold beads, outlines the center or the band on most of these rings. Filigree opens the gallery under the stone into fine metalwork that shows from the side. Engraving adds leaves or swirls to the shank. Many designs carry pavé lab-grown diamonds on the band, and some add bezel-set accents or a split shank for a fuller look.
A halo frames the lab-grown emerald with small lab-grown diamonds, which makes the center look larger and protects its edges. Some halos are hidden, sitting below the center so they show from the side. Solitaire designs keep the lab-grown emerald on its own, with milgrain or engraving doing the vintage work. A lab-grown emerald rates about 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, softer than sapphire, so a halo or bezel accents add some protection for a ring worn daily.
The carat figure on each product page is the total weight of the stones in the ring, and every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Bands are slim, mostly about 2 to 2.2 mm. Choose 10K, 14K or 18K yellow gold; 18K has the deepest antique color, and 14K is a little harder for daily wear. A lab-grown emerald has the same green as a natural emerald for far less. Prices start under $750 at the smallest option, and most rings fall between about $900 and $1,090.
