Lab-grown sapphire is 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, so it wears well in a ring worn every day. A lab-grown sapphire has the same makeup and hardness as a natural sapphire and costs less for its size. In a solitaire, nothing competes with the center, so the color does the work. White gold keeps the setting cool and bright, which suits blue especially well and gives pink and yellow a clean contrast.
Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Rings start at about $570, and most cost between about $820 and $1,080 at the smallest size.
