A solitaire lets the bright yellow of the lab-grown sapphire stand on its own. A halo frames it with lab-grown diamond accents, which makes the center look larger. Every design is offered in eight shapes. Oval, pear and marquise look longer on the finger; cushion and round shapes show the yellow color evenly. Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight, chosen on the product page. Most designs come with a band width from 1.8 to 2.5 mm.
Lab-grown sapphire is 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, so the center stands up well to daily wear. A lab-grown sapphire has the same makeup and hardness as a natural sapphire. Silver is softer, so take the ring off for heavy work and wipe it with a soft cloth. Prices start under $275, and most are between about $375 and $425 at the smallest total weight.
