Why lab-grown blue sapphire and rose gold work together

Blue and pink sit on opposite sides of the color wheel, so rose gold makes a lab-grown blue sapphire look deeper and cooler, and the lab-grown sapphire makes the metal look warmer. Lab-grown diamond accents add white sparkle between the two. Every design comes in 10K, 14K or 18K rose gold; 10K and 14K are harder for daily wear, and 18K has a richer color.

What a lab-grown blue sapphire is

A lab-grown sapphire is real corundum, with the same chemistry, color and hardness as a natural sapphire, grown in controlled conditions instead of mined. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is one of the hardest gems used in jewelry, which makes it a practical choice for a rose gold lab-grown blue sapphire engagement ring worn every day. It also costs far less than a natural sapphire of the same size.

Choosing a style and size

  • Solitaire: the lab-grown sapphire alone on a plain or slim band.
  • Halo and double halo: a ring of lab-grown diamonds frames the blue and makes it look larger.
  • Three stone and side stones: extra sparkle along the shoulders.

Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Prices start under $600, and most rings are between about $900 and $1,050.
