A split shank divides the band as it nears the center, which widens the ring at the top and gives the center a broader base. Twisting the strands adds movement, so the band catches light from different angles as the hand moves. With a princess cut, the rope-like curves contrast with the square outline and sharp corners of the center.
The center stays the only large stone, so it remains the focus. Small lab-grown diamond accents set in pave along the twisted strands add sparkle without taking attention from it. The center can be colorless or a fancy blue, yellow, pink, green or black stone, chosen in the next step.
Choose white, yellow or rose gold in 10K, 14K or 18K, in platinum, and in Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver. White gold and platinum suit colorless and blue centers, yellow gold warms the look, and rose gold softens it. Platinum is dense and wears slowly; silver is the lowest-priced choice. Settings start from about $350, and most are between about $1,100 and $1,300. The price is for the setting; the center is priced when you choose it.
