About citrine

Citrine is the yellow to orange variety of quartz and a birthstone for November. It rates 7 on the Mohs scale, hard enough for regular wear with some care. Keep it away from harder stones in storage, and avoid long exposure to strong heat, which can change quartz color.

Wearing a citrine pear ring

A pear combines a rounded end with a single point, and it makes the finger look longer, especially with the point toward the fingertip. The point is the most exposed part of the stone, so a halo of lab-grown diamond accents or a well-protected tip helps for daily wear. Solitaires and bypass bands keep the look simple; pave, split shank and three stone designs add more sparkle.

Metals and price

Yellow and rose gold deepen citrine's warm color, while white gold, platinum and silver give a brighter contrast. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Prices start under $300, and most rings are between about $750 and $1,050.
