Buying guide
A hidden halo sits below the center, around the base of the setting where the prongs meet. From above you see a clean solitaire. From the side, a line of small stones adds sparkle and catches light under the center. It suits anyone who wants the simple outline of a solitaire with a detail that shows up close.
Most designs set pave lab-grown diamond accents on the band or on a collar under the center. Others keep a plain band, a thin wire band or a tapered band that narrows toward the center to make it look larger. A few add milgrain for a vintage finish, and a knife edge band with a sharp center ridge is also offered. A slim band makes the oval stand out more; a pave band adds sparkle along the finger.
Gold designs come in 10K, 14K or 18K. Every design also comes for a fancy pink, yellow, green or blue center, and some for black, where a white metal halo gives a strong contrast. Settings start under $250, and most are between about $650 and $1,000 for the setting alone; the center is priced when you choose it.
