Buying guide
Filigree is metal shaped into thin, open patterns such as scrolls, swirls and leaves. On a filigree oval engagement ring it usually sits in the gallery under the center or along the band, so the ring looks detailed from the side as well as from above. Many designs add milgrain, a row of tiny metal beads along the edges. The openwork is delicate, so a yearly check at a jeweler helps keep it in shape.
Nearly every oval filigree ring here takes a fancy blue, yellow, pink or green center, and some also take black. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Prices are for the setting only, and the center is priced when you choose it. Settings start from about $200, with most between about $800 and $1,100.
