Blue topaz is a clear, bright gemstone that rates 8 on the Mohs hardness scale, hard enough for a ring worn often with normal care. A marquise topaz ring stretches the stone into a boat shape with two points, which makes it look larger than a round stone of the same weight and lengthens the finger. The points are the most exposed part, so most designs hold each tip with a prong or a V-shaped claw. Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight.
