Buying guide

Petal, leaf and vine styles

Some designs turn the center into a flower, with a floral double halo, a star-shaped floral halo or a petal setting of lab-grown diamonds. Others keep the lab-grown yellow sapphire as a solitaire and put the nature theme in the band, with leaf motifs, vines, bypass shanks that wrap around the center, or a twisted band. A few add filigree, engraving or a hidden halo.

Pairing yellow with metal

Yellow gold makes the center look deeper and warmer, and it suits a leaf or vine band. White gold and platinum give a brighter contrast and make a halo of lab-grown diamonds look whiter. Rose gold adds a soft, garden-like warmth. Round, oval and cushion centers look most like a flower head; pear and marquise centers echo the shape of a petal or leaf.

About lab-grown yellow sapphire

A lab-grown yellow sapphire has the same chemistry, crystal structure and hardness as a natural yellow sapphire. It rates 9 on the Mohs scale, just below diamond, so it handles daily wear well. Its warm, sunny color is even from stone to stone, and it costs far less than a natural yellow sapphire of similar size.

Carat, metal and price

Every design offers 1 to 9 carats total weight. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Prices start from about $330 at the smallest option, and most rings start between about $770 and $990.
