Moissanite is a clear gemstone made of silicon carbide. It rates 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, so it stands up well to daily wear, and it shows strong flashes of rainbow color in the light. A heart shape needs a good cut to show clear lobes and a sharp point, and moissanite's brilliance makes the outline easy to see. Prongs at the point and the two lobes keep the stone secure. Moissanite costs far less than a diamond of the same size.
Every design comes in white, yellow or rose gold in 10K, 14K or 18K, in platinum, and in Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver. White gold and platinum keep the stone looking icy, while yellow and rose gold give a warmer frame. Carat weight is picked on the product page, from 1 to 9 carats total weight.
