Gold radiant cut engagement rings hold a rectangular or square center with cropped corners and bright, sparkling facets. Choose white, yellow or rose gold, then a style: plain solitaires, pave bands of lab-grown diamond accents, halos, hidden halos, three stone, vintage and split shank designs. Buying guide

What makes a radiant cut

A radiant cut combines the outline of an emerald cut with the brilliant faceting of a round, so it sparkles strongly while keeping a clean, geometric shape. Its trimmed corners make it less likely to chip than a sharp-cornered princess cut, and it holds well in four prongs. Radiants come in proportions from nearly square to long and slim; an elongated radiant looks larger on the finger and slims the hand.

Choosing a style

A solitaire lets the radiant's sparkle stand alone. Pave designs line the band with lab-grown diamond accents, and a halo frames the center with small lab-grown diamonds so it looks larger. A hidden halo adds sparkle under the center and shows from the side. Three stone designs pair the radiant with side stones, sometimes marquise, pear or baguette shapes, and vintage designs add milgrain and engraving. Some designs use a bezel for a sleek, protective setting.

Which gold color

White gold gives a cool, bright look that suits a colorless center. A radiant ring in yellow gold has a warm, classic feel, and rose gold adds a soft pink tone. A colored center in yellow or pink often looks richest in yellow or rose gold.
