Leaf and vine patterns read softer and more organic than geometric engraving, and they show best in polished gold or platinum where the cuts catch the light. Many designs add milgrain, small metal beads along the edges, to frame the pattern.
Most designs take any center shape, from round and oval to pear, marquise and heart, and most offer fancy-color centers in blue, pink, yellow or green. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K. Settings start under $300, and most fall between about $960 and $1,620; the center is priced when you choose it. Deep engraving wears slowly, and platinum holds fine detail longest.
