An Asscher cut is a square step cut with deeply cropped corners, which give it an octagonal outline. Its rows of long, flat facets create a pattern of nested squares when you look down into the stone, and a high crown adds depth. Step cuts show the inside of a stone more openly than brilliant cuts, so the look is clear and glassy rather than glittery. At 7 carats that pattern is easy to see.
A solitaire on a thin plain, rounded plain or pavé band keeps the square outline crisp. A halo of small lab-grown diamonds makes the center look larger, while a hidden halo adds sparkle only from the side. A three stone ring, or marquise and pear accents set beside round ones, widens the look across the finger.
