A solitaire is a ring built around one center stone. With a 5 ct solitaire lab-grown diamond ring, the center is large enough to carry the whole design, so the setting stays simple. The prongs hold the stone and let light in from the sides. A solitaire also sits well next to almost any wedding band, which makes it an easy choice for a 5 carat solitaire engagement ring.
The thin plain band makes the center look even larger, and the rounded plain band feels smooth and comfortable. A pave band adds small lab-grown diamonds along the top of the shank while keeping one center stone. The hidden halo places a row of small stones under the center, visible from the side, and the cathedral raises the center on arches over a graduated pave band. Those accents are extra stones beyond the 5 carat center.
Platinum is naturally white and costs more than gold. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold; 18K has the richest color and 10K is the hardest wearing. Prices start from about $3,500, and most rings fall between about $3,850 and $3,950 in the lowest-priced metal, with the lab-grown diamond center included.
