A solitaire puts one center stone at the top of the ring, with nothing framing it from above. At 2 carats the center carries the whole look, so the shape you choose matters most. Round and cushion give the most sparkle, oval, pear and marquise look longer and larger on the finger, and emerald and Asscher cuts show clean step-cut flashes.
A plain band keeps the eye on the center and leaves room for any wedding band later. Pavé bands set small lab-grown diamonds along the shank. The hidden halo version keeps the solitaire look from above but adds a row of lab-grown diamonds under the center that shows from the side.
