Pavé means small stones set close together so the metal between them barely shows. On these rings they are lab-grown diamonds, running along the band and on some styles around the center. They add sparkle that frames the oval without changing its outline. The 2 carat figure is the center alone; the pavé is extra. An oval is a brilliant cut with a long outline, so it covers more of the finger than a round of the same weight.
White gold and platinum suit a bright, icy look; yellow and rose gold warm the stones. Pavé is fine for daily wear, but it helps to keep it away from hard knocks and have a jeweler check the small stones now and then. Rings start from about $1,350, and most cost between about $1,500 and $1,800, center included.
