An asscher cut is a square step cut with clipped corners, which gives it an octagonal outline. Its stepped facets draw the eye toward the middle of the stone and create a layered, hall-of-mirrors effect. Like other step cuts, it shows the inside of the stone clearly. At 2.5 carats, an asscher cut lab-grown diamond has real presence, with a crisp, Art Deco feel.
Solitaires keep the square outline in focus, on a plain band, a rounded plain band or a pave shank. The halo style surrounds the center with small lab-grown diamonds and pairs it with a three-row pave band, while the hidden halo tucks its accents under the center. The cathedral style raises the stone over a graduated pave band. A three stone ring or a band with marquise and round or pear and round accents adds width. Any accents add weight beyond the 2.5 carat center.
Every design comes in white, yellow or rose gold, in 10K, 14K or 18K, or in platinum. White gold and platinum match the icy look of an asscher cut, while yellow and rose gold add warmth.
