Buying guide

How an oval center wears

An oval is an elongated round brilliant, so it keeps lively sparkle while stretching along the finger. Its soft, rounded ends have no sharp points to catch or chip, which makes it an easy shape for daily wear. A 1 carat oval also covers a little more of the finger than a round of the same weight. Against yellow gold, the white lab-grown diamond stands out with a warm border.

From solitaires to side accents

If you like a clean look, the solitaires offer a thin plain band, a rounded plain band or pave lab-grown diamonds down the shank. A halo frames the oval in small stones, while a hidden halo places them under the center so they show from the side. The cathedral style lifts the center on arches over a graduated pave band. For a wider face, consider the three stone style or the marquise and pear side-accent bands. Any accents are added on top of the 1 carat center.

Gold karat and budget

All rings here come in 10K, 14K or 18K yellow gold. 10K is the most durable and the most affordable, 18K has the richest yellow, and 14K balances the two. Finished rings start at about $930, with the middle of the range near $1,100.
