Yellow gold reflects a little warmth into the stone, most visibly at the corners and tips of fancy shapes. Round, oval and cushion centers hide that well with their sparkle, so they stay bright in yellow gold. Emerald and Asscher step cuts show color more openly, which some buyers like for a soft, vintage look.
