A halo is a frame of small stones set around the center. Around a 0.5 carat lab-grown diamond it widens the area of sparkle, so the top of the ring reads larger than the center alone. The halo and the pave band add to the ring's total stone weight; the 0.5 carat figure is the center by itself. This vintage half carat lab-grown diamond engagement ring keeps the halo close to the center and adds openwork filigree along the sides for a heirloom feel.
Round, oval, cushion, princess, emerald, radiant, Asscher, pear, marquise and heart centers are all offered, and the halo follows the outline of each one. Long shapes such as oval, pear and marquise look longer on the finger at the same weight. Square and step-cut shapes like Asscher and emerald show broad flashes of light, while round and radiant cuts give the brightest sparkle.
Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K, in white, yellow or rose, and platinum is also offered. White metals blend with the halo for an all-white look; yellow and rose gold add warm contrast. The three-row pave band comes in 2 or 2.2 mm widths. Prices start from about $2,850 in the lowest-priced metal, with the lab-grown diamond center included.
